Cell Physiology and Glycobiology

We focus on posttranslational modification-glycosylation of proteins and lipids with respect to their alterations in cancer. Cancer cells often display altered cell surface glycans which, by virtue of binding to L- and P-selectin, mediate metastasis. This phenomenon is studied in vivo using selectin deficient mice as well as in vitro by studying the interaction of selectin expressing leukocytes with cancer cells and endothelium.
