Acquired human renal disease are the main causes for end-stage renal disease. An important example is the diabetic nephropathy, leading cause for dialysis therapy in industrialized countries. We use gene expression data from human renal biopsies to identify mechanisms involved in acquired human renal diseases. For this purpose a European multicenter study for gene expression analysis on kidney biopsies has been established: The European Renal cDNA Bank - Kröner-Fresenius Biopsy Bank.
